Nummulites fossil stone is a crystalline limestone bearing the fossilized shells of large foraminifera, known as nummulites, a one-celled organism that floated close to the surface. These rocks are from the Tertiary, approximately 30 million years ago.

This limestone was formed in the Tethys seaway of Pangea and upthrust when the Indian plate pushed under the Asian continent to for the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau. This beautiful, polished stone is quarried in the Baluchistan desert of western Pakistan.
